Central African Internet Governance Forum (FGI-AC): Parliamentarians Address the Challenges of Artificial Intelligence

This morning, I had the honour, at the invitation of the organisers and the Ministry of Telecommunications, Digital Economy and Digitalisation, to participate as both moderator and panellist at the Central African Internet Governance Forum (FGI-AC).

In my capacity as a Member of Parliament, former Minister, and Vice-Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Communication, Telecommunications and the Digital Economy, I moderated a panel discussion on the theme: “Legislating in the Age of AI: The Role of Parliamentarians in Digital Sovereignty, Digital Rights and the Adoption of Framework Laws.”

Alongside Mr Gérard Mallah, representing the Chadian Senate; Honourable Christelle Vuanga, Member of Parliament from the Democratic Republic of the Congo; and Ms Zara Ahmed, Director General of Artificial Intelligence at the Ministry, we discussed the legislative and regulatory challenges associated with artificial intelligence, the protection of citizens, and digital sovereignty, before responding to questions from participants.

I commend this important regional initiative and extend my warm congratulations to Mr Haliki Choua Mahamat, Minister of Telecommunications, Digital Economy and Digitalisation, and his entire team for the successful organisation of this major regional event hosted by our country.
