With the first rainfall of the season, we undertook a round trip along the Nโ€™Djamenaโ€“Dourbaliโ€“Massรฉnya road. The situation we observed was alarming and deeply concerning. One question naturally arises:
What has the population of Chari-Baguirmi done to deserve such neglect and abandonment by the public authorities?
More than fifteen years after the foundation stone was laid for the construction of this road, which stretches only about 159 kilometers, the project remains an endless construction site. This is despite the fact that a significant share of Chadโ€™s economy depends on the Greater Chari-Baguirmi region.
As I write these lines, oil continues to be extracted from Chari-Baguirmi, yet its population continues to live in hardship due to the lack of adequate road infrastructure. This situation severely hampers mobility, economic activity, and access to essential services, particularly during the rainy season.
The people of Chari-Baguirmi deserve better. Their suffering has lasted far too long. It is imperative that the government take urgent action to accelerate and complete the roadworks and provide the region with the infrastructure necessary for its development.
The development of Chari-Baguirmi is not merely a regional concernโ€”it is a national imperative for the future and prosperity of Chad.
